No, we are still accepting registrations in either hard copy form or through the Active.com website:

Do I have to be a Hembree Springs student to participate?
No, the race and festival are open to the community.  We’d love for all our Hembree Springs students and families to participate and to bring all their friends. To encourage participation:The Hembree Springs homeroom with most participation wins a popsicle party!

The 5K is $20 and the 1K is $15.  All registered race participants get one free ticket to our basket raffle. The festival is free.

Running on the road! Is it safe?
We work very closely with the City of Roswell police and transportation departments. They will cone off the closed lanes, escort the race, handle the road closure of Elkins and be stationed throughout the course. The left hand side of the road is closed for the entire course.

Volunteers will be stationed along the course at intervals to monitor participants. There are numerous groups of parents and staff members that are participating in the 5K and will be going at many different paces so there will be many Hembree adults on the course. Ms. Marzetti will be with the Running Club and will be on the course assisting and encouraging those students. In addition many residents who live on the course are planning to come and cheer.

I heard the trophies and awards were unique. Tell me more!
At Hembree Springs we believe in celebrating success, celebrating our students and celebrating in general.
For our 5K, we will have 90 age group awards. The trophies are fabulous works of art created by our HSES students. This year they feature the giraffe. We know some of last year’s winners are hoping for a repeat to get a coordinating piece to match last year’s elephant themed artwork.
In addition to the age group awards, we will be presenting some special awards including best costume. We also have special First Time 5K ribbons for all our first time 5K finishers.
All children who participate in the 5K or 1K will receive printed dog tags to celebrate the 6th annual Hembree Runs Wild event!
For the 1K we have 50 age awards.

My child wants to run the 5K. How do I know if he/she can?
Based on what the students do in PE, a guideline would be for 3rd through 5th to do the 5K and PreK through 2nd to do the 1K. Of course we allow any children to run 1K if they prefer.

If you are unsure, feel free to email Ms. Marzetti at Marzetti@fultonschools.org for her input. You can also register for the 5K and then change your mind the day of the race and do the 1K. There is still time to hit the street with your students and do some training.

Do you have a child that wants to run but you can’t chaperone?
See us at packet pickup on Friday. We are working to setup pace groups with an adult / high school / middle school leader. The goal is to group people by ability and/or age and might look something like: walking the whole thing, planning to walk / run, easily runs a mile, easily runs two miles etc.

If you are running and not focused on your time and want to volunteer (or have a high school student who wants to volunteer) to chaperon, please email us at hembreerunswild5K@hembreespringspta.org

I am not sure I or my child can make it that far.
The race is open to runners, walkers and strollers. Plenty of people are planning to walk the entire race. At a moderate walking pace, it takes about an hour to walk the course. We will be there to celebrate the last person who finishes. Everyone who finishes their first 5K will earn a special First 5K ribbon! There will be a pick-up vehicle if anyone needs assistance on the course.

Tell me more about the basket raffle.
Each grade level puts together an incredible basket, and the race committee has been hard at work asking companies and local businesses for their donations. All of those donations are on display in the lobby of the school and for just $1 your family can purchase a chance to win.

Tickets may be purchased online or by stopping by the school lobby in the morning or at lunch, sending in a raffle ticket order form (we will print your name, teacher name etc. on the tickets for you), or by coming by on packet pick-up day from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, April 26th. Each ticket you purchase may go in any prize box, or all of your tickets may go in the same box!

What do the baskets look like?
2019 Baskets include:
• Legos
• Kindle Fire
• TV and entertainment
• iPads
• Laptop Computer
• Disney tickets
• Birthday parties from Sky Zone & Stars and Strikes

Where do we park?

• The bus lane will be closed.
• The lower Hembree Springs parking lot off Elkins Rd (in front of the cafeteria) will be open (parking spaces only, no curb parking). Because this is close to the 1K route, you will not be able to enter or exit from 10 – 11.
• The Elkins Point parking lot off Elkins Rd will be open.
• There may be parking at Hembree Park by the tennis courts and in front of the community center.
